The Louvre, L,Orangerie, Pere LaChaise

We woke up a little later (jet lag) and strolled over for our 11:30 appointment at the Louvre. There, it was difficult to focus on any one thing: everything in there is so loaded with significance and there is just so much of it! We stared with prehistoric art, saw lots of Etruscan works (an amuse bouche), and then jumped to the French painters, focusing on Delacroix and Gericault. We also caught a lot of the Italian painters and, of course, Mona Lisa. After a relaxing lunch, we walked over to admire Monet s waterlillies at LOrangerie. Next, we hopped on the Metro to Pere Lachaise to visit Gericault, Jim Morrison and many others in the famous graveyard. After lots of drawing, we headed back for a delicious dinner at Chartier, a typical french bistro.

Our Itinerary

June 19 Arrive at Dulles in afternoon. Depart from Dulles in the evening.
June 20 Arrive in Paris at 7am. Take the bus into Paris, drop off our bags at the hotel. Metro to St. Germain de Pres, have lunch, visit Notre Dame. Return to hotel for nap and shower. Steak and frites at Chez Papa and evening boat ride down the Seine.
June 21 Musee D'Orsay, shopping at Sennelier-the famous art store, lunch in the gardens, L'Orangerie in the afternoon. Night drawing and chocolat at Cafe Zephyr.
June 22 Metro to Pere Lachaise for a tour through the cemetary. Lunch and watercolors in the Tuileries Gardens. Afternoon in the Museum of Decorative Arts. Evening in the Louvre and a late dinner.
June 23 Metro to Montmartre, climb Sacre Couer. Pick up bags at the hotel and head to Bercy train station for 7pm overnight train to Florence.
June 24 Arrive early and take the bus up to the campsite. Visit San Miniato church and lunch Oltoarno. Head over to the Uffizi. Night drawing at the Piazzale Michaelangelo.
June 25 Accademia at 10:30, lunch in the city, climb the Duomo and check out the Baptistry, cross back over the Ponte Vecchio for afternoon drawing in the Boboli Gardens. Dinner overlooking Florence.
June 26 Pick up our cars first thing and drive out of Florence into the Tuscan countryside. Lunch at Montebelli, afternoon walk into Caldana.
June 27 Architectural drawing at Massa Marittima, lunch and watercolors at Montepulciano.
June 28 Beach trip to Castiglione della Pescaia
June 29 Day trip to Deruta to watch demonstrations of how majoliche pottery is made.
June 30 Day trip to Siena and San Gimignano
July 1 Pack up, have one last amazing breakfast, and head to Rome for our flight home. Depart Rome in the early afternoon.
